@ln2v expressed interest in translating the site (though did not say into which language[s]). I'm not sure the best way to go about that, logistically. If any one has ideas, or experience, please share them.

Actually, I didn't mean just me but a group of people from Oslo hackerspace. We want to make an event where we would work on the translation and any programming required for i18n. Languages would probably be Norwegian, German, maybe Spanish, Vietnamese. It depends on who will be joining the event.

Oh neat!

thefoxis commented 12 years ago

@theophani If you're thinking about translating it in few languages similarly to HTML5 Boilerplate for example I can take care of Polish translation.

Actually it's a great fit into one of the initiatives I'm leading - WebMuses. Which basically is a community of tech women organizing events, workshops and encouraging other females (but not only!) to start playing with the Web.

I have extensive experience with i18n (nearly all the projects I work on need to be bilingual from the get-go)... if the Oslo hackerthing happens, I'd be interested in crashing the party and helping out.

@kytrinyx Cool! :) Please join us, here are the party details: http://www.meetup.com/hackeriet/events/68146982/

Great, see you there!

Ok, just a quick update: Jekyll doesn't have support for i18n (I should have checked this earlier).

There's an old discussion on mojombo/jekyll that discusses several approaches, none of which have been merged into the project itself: https://github.com/mojombo/jekyll/issues/389

There hasn't been any movement on this for 5 months.

We could nag mojombo about i18n, figure out whether or not he'd be interested in a particular approach, and then implement that.

There's also a suggestion floating around to simply duplicate the whole blog in various languages, putting it under .weareallaweso.me, but that is potentially messy and filled with hassles.

At this point I don't have any good suggestions.
