My Learning Diary, where I will document the different strands of learning that I engage in. Here's a week by week breakdown of projects I engaged in, the things I created, the resources I used, and a summary of what I learned that week.
We haven't formally sat down to talk about a question - and I wouldn't want to artificially create one on my own. Our focus is summarized below.
Currently we find that most students look to the summative assessment to gauge their progress and success in classes - we are hoping to move away from a focus on the summative assessment piece and create meaningful, robust, criteria/rubrics for formatively communicating and assessing student learning. The focus will be on "skill chasing" and encouraging our students to be reflective with respect to their learning (both successes and areas of growth). Students would be assessing themselves on a continuum (i.e. meeting expectations, exceeding expectations...etc) - many of the criteria will be parallel to Core Competencies (Critical thinking etc).
Please send us 2 -5 sentences about where you are at?
We have created assessments for STEM 8 as well as Physics 11/12 and they are already implemented. The hope is to "beta test" them this term and work on refining the criteria/rubrics over the balance of the year. We would also like to spend some time on creating a field-tested framework of the rubric that would be "shareable" with other departments and implemented with relative ease (with specific content additions). Some of the material has already been shared with other schools and emailed to you.
What would you like to see in the last session on Mon. April 10th?
I'm speaking on behalf of the team (without consulting) but I think we would all like to be able to connect with other school teams that are working with a similar focus. It may be difficult as there are so many school teams, but some way of collaborating in a focused way would be helpful.
We have created opportunities at the school level for collaboration via release time, so connecting as a whole group only to work as a school team is not helpful for us.
Alternately - working in Secondary teams to discuss what schools are doing this year to meet the Grade 8/9 Core Competencies requirement would be helpful.
