Make traits dumping more robust #10

Getting a variety of errors here (see jenkins logs). Some may be ephemeral, some may simply need a retry, some might require "refactoring" the code, and some may be intractable.

I've checked in a new version that should be an improvement in numerous ways, and is ready for testing as far as I know. Upgrade instructions at the bottom of README.md.
