This is not an issue as such, but I wasn't quite sure how to ask a question on the repo project in another way. Anyhow, I was wondering in your lamp solution how you powered the APA102 strip and the Teensy - did the Ikea lamp power supply have a 12v output which you could regulate down to the voltage required by the LEDs and micro-controller?
I may try building something similar soon and was just wondering how easy / hard it is to adapt power supply built into eg. such an Ikea lamp for the purpose.
The lamp just used 110v house wiring. I ripped all of the wiring out and just used a 5V 4A power supply like this one: http://www.adafruit.com/product/1466
