I feel that this option would better be phrased in the positive. That is "Show Tray Notifications" instead of "Hide Tray Notifications". Notifications is a feature that is default enabled. It's only because we've already used the application that it seems like Tray Notifications is a given.
As well as avoiding the double negative, phrasing the checkbox in the positive will more naturally scale to fine grained notification control ("Show X Notifications", "Show Y Notifications", ...).
