BTstack Keyboard for ATV: Stuck on 'Connecting' while trying to pair keyboard #225

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Upgrade ATV2 to iOS 4.4.4 - Jailbreak with Seas0nPass
2. Install BTStack for ATV 1.0.0-4 through NitoTV
3. Go to Custom Settings->BTStack, keyaboard appears in list, try to pair.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I am using a no-brand Bluetooth keyboard. The keyboard was paired easily and
worked fine in iOS 4.2.1 so I know it worked before. Now, when I try to start
the pairing process it goes into 'Connecting' screen and sits there forever.
Also, I can back out to BTLoader it works fine, but when I back out again to
Frontrow, FrontRow crashes and reboots.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
BTstack Keyboard for ATV 1.0.0-4
iOS 4.4.4

Please provide any additional information below.
I tried the same with another BT keyboard, an HP Touchpad keyboard trying to
see if the problem is with the keyboard but the same thing happened: Stuck on
'Connecting' screen.

@ciavanni: hey.. there's no keyboardd in the list!

did you install the "Corona 5.0.1 Untether" package and did a reboot? If not,
please do now.

If you already have, please try "launchctl load
/Library/LaunchDaemons/ch.ringwald.keyboardd.plist"

Also, please enable syslog (e.g. install "syslog to /var/log/syslog" package
and reboot) and run "tail -f /var/log/syslog" for a while to see if there are
crashes reported

thanks. it looks like it crashes before keyboardd even starts.

also: what the heck is apocalypsePony.dylib?

please delete it (no harm done, it crashes anyway):

lol.. If you do a quick google after the pony, you'll end up with a long list
of pastie and crash reports. it would be good to learn to which package it
belongs, and who made it.

It didn't work! :(

Ok ... my steps were:

1) Remove that file
(/Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries/apocalypsePony.dylib)
2) Reboot AppleTv2 by NitoTv settings
3) Activate Logging (tail -f /var/log/syslog)
4) Activate BtStack
5) Try to pair Keyboard
6) Stuck on "Connecting".
7) Stop Logging
8) Dump hci_dump.pklg file

:( - no "pony" but it still crashes before it even starts. at least that
explains what's going on: the actual keyboard daemon crashes on start.

Confirm that keyboardd is constantly crashing (segmentation error !?).
Crashlog attachment shows a crash detail.

For now, I've disabled (actually removed) the BTstack and UI, as it was quite
busy constantly crashing and filling up the /var/log/syslog ...

Hoping you make some progress, so I can reinstall and retry this function.
Currently..... not usable.

Like to point out that if you launch terminal , ssh into the apple tv and
launch "keyboardd" and leave it open - > they keyboard connects and runs
norminally until terminal is closed.

not bad. please note that the working example was an incoming connections. The
outgoing connects are triggered over the unix socket which keyboardd would get
from launchd, if not run from command line. So, it looks like keyboardd would
work if it wouldn't crash due to other stuff.

Sounds about right

The keyboard had been previously paired with the AppleTV from an older version
of iOS before the update and was working fine. I restored the apple TV,
jailbroke it with the latest seasonpass , installed NitoTV and installed the
BTstack from Nito. Then :

Apple-TV:~ root# keyboardd
launch_msg("CheckIn") IPC failure: 57BTdaemon started - stdout
BTdaemon started - stderr
Starting BTstack
BTstack working

<at this point i just push any key on the (Apple Bluetooth) keyboard to wake it
up>.

HCI_EVENT_CONNECTION_COMPLETE from 28:37:37:32:d2:84
Issuing role switch to become Master.
L2CAP_EVENT_INCOMING_CONNECTION 28:37:37:32:d2:84, handle 0x0b, psm 0x11, local

cid 0x4d, remote cid 0x47
Keyboard connected, status 0
Keyboard connected, status 103
Key down: 'a'
Key down: 'b'
Key down: 'c'

Rebooting the apple tv fully (turning off and on power) requires going into ssh
and launching keyboardd again. The keyboard does not automatically pair unless
keyboardd is launched in this manner, neither will it pair via the Apple TV
bluetooth GUI. The ssh session has to remain open.

Matt,

Related to updating the corona jailbreak. The deb package on saurik's
repository does not have any payloads for AppleTV2,1 provided. So if this is a
launchctl problem there is no quick way to fix it except waiting for an updated
seas0npass.

Original comment by darkv...@gmail.com on 20 Jan 2012 at 8:50

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
There fixes for launchtl are changes to some scripts (I think). That shouldn't
be specific for ATV.
Anyway, keyboardd is crashing when started by launchd and that's a different
problem.

For some reasons I don't remember, BTstack and libBTstack was linking against
UIKit, which a) doesn't exist on ATV (AFAIK), b) causes MobileSubstrate
extensions to get loaded into keyboardd.

Please try this version and report back:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5138628/BTstack-0.4-1592.deb
(syslogs are fine, too)

What's The actual State?
I have issues with my Bluetooh-Keyboard too.
When I try to connect it via GUI, but the connection sticks at "Connecting"
screen, where should be a kind of password, but there is none.
I also tried the .deb from here, but didn't work also.
Are you still working at the issue or do you wait for seas0npass for releasing
a new jailbreak tool?

What is the expected output, when I Start keyboard from Console? It says
something, that there's an error with the stdio.

Is there anywhere a Cheat-Sheet for that (or other command line) tool on iOS?

Hi all,

Same problem here... Just getting "connecting" and no real pairing...

Would be very nice a btstack update! :)

Perhaps the reason for the issue has to be found in the already implemented
bluetooth support
of iOS 4.4.4 for ATV which is mentioned below !?!

http://9to5mac.com/2011/07/12/apple-tv-to-gain-bluetooth-keyboard-support-in-ios
-5-opens-the-door-to-apps/

For example in the folder /usr/sbin you will find two binaries called bluetool
and BTServer
which hint to the fact that BT is already part of the iOS 4.4.4 !?!

If you start bluetool, you will be able to interact with the bluetooth gateway.

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
@mueller nope. ATV2 always hat BlueTool and BTServer. In fact, BlueTool is
needed by BTstack to control the Bluetooth modul. The scanning works, so
BTstack is fine. It's "just" that keyboardd crashes on start when running as
user mobile from launchctl.

could someone try to switch to user mobile (su mobile) and then start
keyboardd? Does that crash, too?

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Ok! Thanks for your explanation !

On "su mobile" i got this error:
"error retrieving current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories:
Permission denied"

after that starting keyboardd it still crashes even with the new
BTstack-0.4-1592.deb !

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
the "error retrieving.." is ok (you could do a "cd").

can you find the crash report? is there an actual error in /var/log/syslogd?

(I'll need to first update my ATV2 and then find a monitor to connect it :)

Very nice! Could someone also test, if just replacing that .plist is enough to
get it working? (use latest BTstack release from BigBoss repo, but replace the
.plist?

I used your last Deb and replaced (re edited) .plist. I had a Crash when
turning off keyboard and retry to pair, but after that crash It worked very
well for the second time! More test tomorrow! :)

I have an ATV2 with the latest firmware, jailbroken with seas0npass. I
replaced the plist mentioned above, and updated btstack to the current version
via NitoTV's update. At first try the apple tv saw a keyboard (judging by the
keyboard icon in the bluetooth search page) and then crashed and rebooted.
Second try it found no bluetooth devices and crashed/rebooted. Third try it saw
my Apple keyboard, and asked to type 0000 to pair. That worked, but the first
few left-arrow clicks on the keyboard did a left-arrow + Enter. After that, it
has been working like a charm in both ATV mode and in XBMC. When the bluetooth
connection times out, there is a 1 second delay or so, and then you see the
little message box that the keyboard has connected.

So, a little unstable in the first few tries, but after that it all works like
a charm.

The new plist solved the problem for me. I just copied it over and rebooted. No
additional messing around. No need to type 0000. Thank you.
