VPN Client Issues #1019

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Connect to a VPN
2. Wait till the router connects to the VPN service
3. Check IP at http://whatismyipaddress.com/

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect to see my network traffic being routed through the VPN service. It is
still being routed through my local ISP and not through the VPN

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
3.4.3.6-069

Please describe the problem as detailed as it's possible.
If you have connection problem, then syslog file is required. (please do
attach it as a file)
Note that if there will be a poor problem description the issue status will
be changed to 'Invalid'!

Please help me, I would like to know if there is anything else I should be
doing to get the network traffic to be routed via the VPN, I cannot find
anything on the WIKI or Mini-FAQ

Thanks

JohNB

This depends on service (vpn server) you use, server and client settings.
You've told nothing of the above...

Sorry, should have been more specific :-(

Am trying to connect to a ProXPN account using a PPTP connection.
I set up all the details in the client section of the menu and it tells me that
it is connected.
When I check the IP address usinf whatismyaddress.com , it is still however
being reported as my WAN ip.

How do I root my traffic through the VPN connection?

Thanks

I am most concerned about routing my Transmission traffic through the VPN as my
ISP is shaping torrents to hell, at the moment I can connect on my desktop
using a client and torrent software but would like to do it through the router
if possible.

Stupid Question - Is it possible to create a PPPOE connection and then run the
VPN connection over it using the rt-n56u router?

Hi Brinkman,
You need to work with your VPN to setup all packets forwarding through the VPN. If you're not sure how to do this, I would contact your VPN and do research about client configurations. Here is just an example:
http://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/vpn.client.pptp#static.routing.for.all.packets

It can be done, but you need to configure the client right.
