5gHz WiFi lag #1237

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Connect to 5gHz WiFi
2.Browse to Google Play Store (web browser or android Play Store)
3.Browse the apps list.
4.The longer 5gHz WiFi is connected, the slower images appear. List also gets
slower to load.
5.Download speed is not affected though.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Connection should be on par with 2.4ghz WiFi.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
RT-N65U 3.0.3.8-081

Please describe the problem as detailed as it's possible.
If you have connection problem, then syslog file is required. (please do
attach it as a file)
Note that if there will be a poor problem description the issue status will
be changed to 'Invalid'!

The initial connection seems to lag. Once connected, the transfer speed is
fine. However, loading a page or starting a download lag so much. On XBox One,
it will lalmost always timeout while waiting for connection. Is it called
latency issue?

Have no such problem here, and most my devices use 5GHz band, including my
Galaxy S4, Note 2 and macbook pro

Hi,

It appears that I'm having this issue with both 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi.

All my devices have this issue. It only appear after being connected to
WiFi for around 30 seconds. Even Facebook app is showing this issue. All
posts are there but no images. Images will load but may take up to 30
seconds.

Is it possible to downgrade to previous version? I would like to check if
the problem exists, but I think the problem starts with the latest version.

I'm using S2, Note, Note 2, Note 3 and Note 10.1.

Hi,

I downgraded to 3.0.3.8-080 and the issue goes away.

I found that the best way to reproduce the issue on my router is to connect
and android phone to the WiFi (both 2.4ghz and 5ghz), and wait for about 30
seconds. Then open Facebook app or Google Play Store. In my case,
everything load up fast except for the images. They may load up after 10 to
30 seconds, or may timeout with no image loaded.

Thanks.

Hi,

It seems that 3.0.3.8-080 also has the issue.

However I made a weird discovery. Though weird and sound impossible, I
managed to replicate it several times.

I found that modifying the WiFi settings will trigger the issue. So far the
settings that I've been modifying are the General and Professional tabs.
Once triggered, changing the settings back to what they were doesn't fix
the issue. Modifying the 2.4ghz settings will only cause the issue for
2.4ghz and the same goes for 5ghz.

To fix the issue, I reflash the firmware. After the reflash, issue
disappear. It will return if I modify the WiFi settings again and a reflash
will fix it again.

Thanks.

I have no choice but to use RT-N65U 3.0.3.8-081 because it has newer minidlna
compare to the entware repository.

Anyway, the lag in 5Ghz is getting bad to worse. Weird thing is, the lag is on
devices, not PC. Lag effect only certain apps like Facebook and Google Play
Store. I also notice that YouTube's TV remote control feature also has this
problem. Anything selected on YouTube on devices (android tablet, phone and
etc) will never reach the TV or XBox One.

Btw, I have tried factory reset the device and unplugged all HDDs. From there,
I only configured the internet access and WiFi 5Ghz and the problem remains. I
haven't tried factory reset the internal storage though.

Finally resolved the issue. It seems that the issue is due to IPV6. Once
disabled, the problem goes away.

Due to this, I performed a test on IPV6 and found that the WAN IPV6 is not
working. It will only obtain the IP after a few minutes (more than 3), but it
is not usable (checked using Google). I have confirmation that my ISP support
native IPV6 though.
