Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Set wireless 5ghz to ap-bridge client only
2.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Entered all the information from my main access point (tp-link archer c7) but
the rt-n65u doesnt connect to it

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Version 3.0.3.9 from 31 december 2014

Please describe the problem as detailed as it's possible.
If you have connection problem, then syslog file is required. (please do
attach it as a file)
Note that if there will be a poor problem description the issue status will
be changed to 'Invalid'!

I want my rt-n65u to connect wirelessly (5ghz in this case) to my archer c7
(which is my main access point)
I would like my rt-n65u to redistribute my internet access it should get feom
my archer c7 through its lan port. (As a wireless bridge)
Dhcp server is disabled on rt-n65u but set with static ip on lan .. same subnet
as main access point (dhcp server is on archer c7 side)
No ip is set on rt-n65u wan port
Rt-n65u does see my archer c7 while scanning for other access point and vice
versa.

Please help!

Wireless bridges were tested many times with different devices. As for me, I've
never had any problem when tested it. Please read manual in wiki. In your case
you just need to change its operation mode to "AP" and connect cable to one of
lan ports.

FYI i already tried thay way but didnt worked!

Ive been able to make it work but its not the way i wanted.
I set it into router mode set a static ip on wan port which match main WAP
subnet then i had to enable dhcp on rt-n65u with another subnet.

Ive read the wiki but only thing i found is WDS which seems to be working only
on an open wireless signal.

Then, describe please the way you'd like these devices to be connected.
You write that you want to create wireless bridge, then why do you connect them
with cable?
> Ive read the wiki but only thing i found is WDS which seems to be working
only on an open wireless signal.
I don't where you found it.
http://my.router/Advanced_WMode2g_Content.asp
"This feature only supports RT-N65U [Open System/NONE, Open System/WEP or
WPA2-Personal/AES] authentication methods."

If you need wireless bridge, then follow
https://code.google.com/p/rt-n56u/wiki/CommonTips?wl=en#Using_a_second_router_to
_increase_the_coverage_area_of_%E2%80%8B%E2%80%8BWi.
Again, I've tested it with different devices and never had any problem, but on
2,4G only =/ (I don't think there will be any problem with 5G)

They are both connected wirelessly through 5 GHz

Here is my setup which might but thing more simpler
ISP ----> My Pfsense router (DHCP server, Web cache etc..) --->(Cat6) Switch
--->(Cat6) TP-link Archer C7 --->(Wireless 5Ghz)---> Asus RT-N65u

TP-Link C7 is set as access point only since i already have a router. Cable is
connected to LAN port of archer C7 coming from the switch
Settings i use is 5Ghz N signal only channel 165

On the asus RT-N65u
Settings i use in 5Ghz bridge tab is AP-Client only as i dont need it to act as
a reapeater
Wireless client role WAN (ISP) ----> i tried lan bridge but doesnt connect
Channel 165
STA SSID (i used the survey and got my archer C7 SSID)
Authentication method WPA2-Personal
Encryption AES
Same preshared key as Archer C7

Is i set the asus Rt-N65u in AP mode it doesnt connect but as soon as i set it
to router mode it does.

As its specified in the wiki, i tried the WDS on the RT-N65u but unfortunately
there is no way for me to enter the authentication method of the Archer C7 that
way.

So far it does work but only if RT-N65u is set as Router and uses the Wireless
5Ghz as wan port.
