[Feature] Save modifications to local osm file #111

Open kaleng opened 7 years ago

kaleng commented 7 years ago

When saving modifications, let the user choose to export the changes to a local osm file instead of only giving the possibility to upload.

Hi @kaleng , thanks for the issue and sorry for our late response. OSM Contributor and JungleBus are side-projects and we have a tendency to get caught up in lots of things ^^, right @overflorian ? This sounds interesting and is an interesting fallback to potential bugs in the app. @overflorian what do you think about this? This might be a good substitute to Papers for Mapathons ;)

Will keep this issue open and we will probably do something about it at some point.

Hi, thanks Loic for forwarding me this issue.

I think that our project has always been about simplifying contribution for beginners. @kaleng your request -as it is- looks like a power user evolution and I am afraid I don't agree about implementing it.

Nevertheless, I believe that collecting data for post-processing work is an interesting development possibility and that we will definitely dig in in that direction. As user of the app, I have done some intense collection work and I felt limited like you today so I definitely understand you request.

For the Jungle Bus app I believe that we should focus on collecting a GPS trace and export it to the OSM trace database directly. @kaleng if the app allows you to add POIs in the trace, you would be able to download this trace (e.g. http://www.openstreetmap.org/user/overflorian/traces) and work on it in JOSM. To do so, in JOSM you would have to convert the layer of the trace to a data layer and then work on it as if it was a .osm file. Does it make sense to you? Would it be a suitable solution to your needs?
