Update manuscript based on JNT Google Docs readthrough

Purpose

Per https://github.com/jaybee84/ml-in-rd/issues/125#issuecomment-739598749:

I took a bunch of handwritten notes on a PDF version ... The notes I took are mostly related to wordsmithing, where I think having me file a PR would probably be more efficient than noting it here.

This is the pull request that incorporates the notes I took on the Google Doc version.

Notes on changes

In particular, I tried to break up or simplify sentences that struck me as long or complex.
There's definitely some personal preference re: word choices happening here.
I left comments I wrote in the margins here as TODOs. Specifically in the format [TODO: <comment> ].
I also fixed spacing, 1 sentence per line, or punctuation issues as I found them. I did not go through the prior knowledge section (because I didn't have notes) or composite approaches section (because #128) yet.

Unless otherwise noted above, this PR will be considered ready for review when all four items have been checked.
