changes to venue page #29

Howard would like the Venue page to be re-organized so that we're sectioning off the venues into two categories. It should be Yorkville Venues (with all the stages in Yorkville listed below that) and Ticketed Venues (with all the other stages listed below that).

I guess we can remove the google map that's there now...hope this isn't a big production. Howard wanted a preview tomorrow....my bad, I should have got this to you sooner

I'll take a look at doing it this afternoon/evening. One issue that I can see is that the mobile version, since the map able is going to be too small to be visible. Currently we use the google map which zooms nicely.

Here are the issues I have that need to be resolved as soon as possible

  1. Mobile (see above)
  2. I have done a mockup of what the page will look like and the map is too small to be readable: http://torontojazz.com/venues-yorkville
  3. How do I select out the Yorkville venues from their addresses, or does this need to be done by hand? If it is done by hand then we lose any automation on the page when new venues are added.

I changed all yorkville venue names to start with "Yorkville Village" Does that make it easier (not sure how this will fly with Howard but we'll see. I guess otherwise we'll have to hand-code something but I can see how that could come back and bite us

re mobile - I can still zoom in on the map on my iphone (like with any pic) - I guess that will have to do

What time is your meeting with Howard? Suggestion: we put a setting on every venue:

That way we can enter events at clubs but not have them appear on the calendar or other places where they might produce too much clutter. However they would be there for Google to find.

there are only a couple of clubs and they probably have a cover charge anyway.

Take a look at http://torontojazz.com/venues-yorkville All the locations are in, and I have slightly cropped the map. Let me know if you want any other changes, and if not, I can make it live (with the banner at the top) as soon as you want.

well so much for my meeting in North York - car was choking so I dropped in at mechanic instead.

OK Howard likes it - but asked if we could have a larger version of the map with a "click on map to expand" option. This might help with the mobile challenges too...

Meanwhile I think we can go live as is and add the new box w/link to venue page

All updated. Just a reminder that the top right banner this is linked from is supposed to be a rotating banner with 2 or more messages on it. It will actually get more attention if it changes. Recently we've dropped it down to one advert, which stops it rotating. In the past we have had a Donate button and a ticket info button as well.
