I get a Similar problem.
Many of the videos' playback fails without any sort of error messages.
Some of them have "Playback failed" popping up, as I click upon them
I'm running XBMC on Windows XP based machine. version 9.11 Release.
Version is 1.7.4

Since no longer than two months ago I also can't playback video's through the
Youtube plugin. I run the 9.11 stable version, and can search or reach my saved
favorites, but on playback, nothing happens, no error other than 'Busy" while I
spam playback on several video. How to solve this? The plugin version I run is
up to date according to svn.

Same problem here.
I am running XBMC on my Xbox (the most up-to-date version, FYI)
I think it has something to do with the newest YouTube changes.
You know, there were changes in the design and the Player....

it's been reported to be a bad cookie.txt, so somewhere in userdata, find
youtube's cookie.txt and delete it.

Deleted the cookie.txt, still get an error, no playback. This is on Linux. I
suspect it has to do with the youtube changes as well. Also, not all of the
source for the plugin is in source control, is some of it non-gpl?

modified version of xbmcplugin_categories.py file attached which removes the
corrupt cookie.txt file after authentication. Playback tested on linux (UBN
10.04) and xbox, latest T3CH build.
Tweaked subscriptions to display 25 min entries instead of 3.
There are issues with increasing the perpage ini setting past 4 (breaks the
script), and sometimes duplicate list entries when returning from video
playback. Refresh file list to fix.

I got this error, when playing some videos.
At some point, XBMC does not play anything on youtube anymore.
For that, I´ve to restart XBMC, than it´s working again for some videos,
until the same happens again.
I will look into it tonight again, since I did update the YT addon yesterday ;)
