Theoretically what do you think the range of this would be? In the video you mention 30 to 50 feet, but with a yagi or something else maybe could go even further than that? I've got some yagi I'll go through them to see if any are 300 or 400mhz range and try it out
I have a simple monopole without a ground plane, about 8m off the ground, perhaps 15m from a fairly busy two-lane street, and I pull in lots of transmissions on 315MHz. I imagine a well-placed Yagi-Uda could pick up a lot more, though there will be likely a trade-off between pointing down the road vs. pointing broadside at the cars (where the line-of-sight with the wheels is best).
I would also recommend focusing on front-end filtering, rejecting out-of-band interference using something like a SAW filter, and getting a receiver with decent dynamic range and a good noise floor. These will be important to varying degrees (and I can't yet say how much), but even with a simple, inexpensive HackRF receiver, I am able to pull in a lot of sensors.
