RPi: ftp server doesn't allow opening SD_card folder #38

connection to FTP server succeeds
only visible entry is SD_card (unless you have a USB memory stick installed in the Pi)
trying to enter that SD_card folder gives an error

Temporary Workaround for Users

do clean shutdown of Pi
transfer SD card from Pi to laptop
read data from SGdata folder on SD card

Diagnosis:

vsftp server won't follow symlinks out of the user's chroot jail, and /media/SD_card is a symlink to /dev/sdcard, which walks free

TODO for Developers

vsftp has no option to change this, so use a bind remount to bring /dev/sdcard into view

add this line to /etc/fstab:

/dev/sdcard /media/SD_card none rw,bind  0    0

replace symlink with directory:

sudo rm /media/SD_card
sudo mkdir /media/SD_card

After a reboot, this will make the entire SD card (including SGdata, but also config and OS image file, but not OS tree itself) visible via FTP.

package this as an update script, perhaps by including an update script and a call to it from a file called /etc/cron.d/update-XXX
