To be honest, I haven't tried either of these.
As paperwm is an X11 thing, that's probably the big difference. cardboard appears (at first sight) to expand in one dimension with variable-width tiles wheres newm uses fixed size tiles in two-dimensions.
the only function that I would really like to have is the preview of paperwm in alttab out there without fear of being wrong newm handles the concept better even there is no point of comparison other than they are all wm
There are other window managers that implement "scrollable tiling":
How does newm compare to them? If it's a similar concept, add some comparison to README or "Similar projects" section.
