Openmeetings client in Ubuntu 9.10, Firefox 5.3.5: Video image distorted in videoconference and microphone not working #996

OpenMeetings 0.5.1 (r1406) on Ubuntu 9.10, Firefox 3.5.5

See attached screenshot.

In videoconference I always get a distorted image. The image is zoomed
(magnified) and doubled (what you see in the screenshot is my face
magnified and split in two). I tried different videocams and in two
different Ubuntu installations (both with Ubuntu 9.10). I have the last
flash plugin from Adobe. The camera works well in other applications (skype
for instance) in both systems, both video and audio.

In Firefox the camera microphone does not work, I've tried other browsers
and the only one where it seems to work is Seamonkey.

Opening Flash settings in any browse freezes the browser and no settings
can be changed.

The video image works perfectly in the Auditorium.

Hello,

This problem is caused by Adobes flashplugin and Video for linux 2 (v4l2)
webcam.
This is not coming from openmeetings. Adobes flashplugin does not handle v4l2
devices
correctly. See more info from the openmeetings-user mailing lists. Use the
search
with v4l as a searchword.

You are right. The only way I made my webcam work (Logitech Webcam for
Notebooks) is
by setting the LD_PRELOAD environment variable equal to
"/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so" (this provides a layer of Video for Linux 1
compatibility). In Firefox the image in the videoconference still gets
distorted (and
the built-in microphone does not work) but in Seamonkey the image is right and
the
microphone works. So some combination of the inability of the Adobe flashplugin
to
deal with Video for Linux 2 and Firefox seems to be also affecting this issue.

I repeat that the the webcam and the video work fine for other applications
such as
Skype.
