I must share my more about my own meal planner and rubbish sensors and automation. The same goes for my awesome motion-triggered light automation.

Consider a single automation for each remote/button and have all the possible button presses added as triggers. Then use the new chooser to select what action to do based on the trigger event.

See if my pressure pad (sofas and beds) will work with a hacked Aqara door contact and therefore replace three ESP boards. Balance this though as for the main bed and sofa I can drive two pressure pads from one ESP board whereas I'd need Aqara contact for each pad (or pairing of pads). I like the idea of the Aqara for the sofas though as it would avoid trailing cables etc. The other downside to the Aqara is battery life. Having tested and can confirm the pressure pads I use work with a hacked Aqara contact sensor I can see me using both. For the beds, I will continue to use an ESP32 as they are within reach of power and they're discrete but for the sofa, I might move over to using an Aqara as the sensor can be placed within the cushion.
