Hint: when one of your scripts installs Java, the installer currently displays a confusing message about Java 9 ("Important!!! For now, you should continue to use Java 8 […]") ending with the prompt "Press [ENTER] to continue or ctrl-c to cancel adding it".
At first, I thought this meant that most users (like me) should press ^C to cancel adding Java 9, but that didn't seem to go well. When I restored the VM and pressed [ENTER] at the prompt, installation succeeded.
