There was a phone call with Sabine Tissot, the designer of the EIB’s new logo. Re the oval design, she said “I like it, I like it. I am happy with it.” But she preferred its colours be the new logo’s colours.
By email she wrote:
As we just discussed, I agree with your proposal, the ellipse one. I attached the logo user guide where you can find the correct colour on page 21.
That logo user guide. Those colours: Pantone Reflex Blue = #003399
; Pantone Cool Grey 7 = #9D9D9C
. Hence current draft of new logo:
Colours not changed in code above.
I am still hoping to be told a definitive x∶y size ratio for the quarter-ellipse (per next image), so will not yet make this new marker live. (An email has been sent to Werner Sobek AG, Stuttgart.)
The inspiration for the current _EIB marker was the 1999 logo of the European Investment Bank:
This set of markers was first published on 01 Jan 2023. Effective thirty-two days later, 02 February 2023, the EIB introduced a new logo.
As the EIB’s current marker was based on the 1999 logo, and as the number of users of the current version is still quite small, an update should be considered.
The announcement of the new logo says:
Images of the EIB East Building, including this suggest that its cross section is part of an ellipse, 5∶4:
,
The proposed new marker is an ellipse, 5∶4, with horizontal lines to echo the current logo. (Reminder: “Markers must have a well-defined centre”.) As silver is little-used in the set of markers, this proposed marker uses the same colours as the current marker (

and#949494
).Memorandum item: the current marker, as based on the ’99 logo:
After removal of redundant white space, the proposed new marker is ≈377 bytes. With the extra white space, the current draft of the new marker is:
A pointer to this issue will be emailed to the correct person at the EIB.
