The software just does some simple thresholding on the gradient of the image to decide which pixels are edge pixels, so as long as there is a clear contrast between the drop and the background, anything is fine.
That said, I'm not super familiar with tensiometry setups, I'm mainly just responsible for writing code. However I think usually you'd have the drop sitting in front of a diffused white light source, such as (image source):
