second midi port acting weird #576

Based on absolutely nothing, my second midi port started to get hidden and not usable. RTP Midi detects the other computer, but OSC refuses to use it anymore (for no reason).

First error looks like that: https://i.imgur.com/ApWrBPU.jpg

Once restarted OSC, got a different one: ERROR: MIDI: unknown output (cubase_art)

midi line: --midi ableton:0,1 cubase_art:1,2

I can't use my articulation switch anymore on "cubase_art" but all the information using "ableton" is still being received.

I reset my laptop, clean windows installation. I've installed what it was needed to run OSC. Now nothing work. Windows tells me there is no midi devices (but two virtual midi are connected on the laptop....) This doesn't make any sense...

Did you do some windows update lately ?

Manaberry commented 4 years ago

I was asking myself this question. Usually, my connection is set to "metered" so no update but maybe my laptop did its thing while I was traveling last week...

Maybe that's a long shot but take a look at this: https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/articles/115004252083-USB-MIDI-is-not-recognized-on-Windows-10-

Especially this comment from 3 days ago : https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/articles/115004252083/comments/360000801451

ahem well 3 days AND one year ago...

Microsoft support didn't find the problem, even on a full reset pc (fresh install and only OSC/RTPMIDI/PYTHON installed.)

Tobias (RTPMidi) is also clueless. Something happened somewhere, nobody knows what or how. My laptop is now unusable. No more touchscreen to work with. Jeez...

Manaberry commented 4 years ago

I did another update on the laptop. Now I can see the devices correctly (wtf). The sad part is that now OSC don't send anything to the midi port. It disappears somewhere.

The log console says "MIDI Sent", but no activity from MIDI-OX output/input from both computers. This drives me nuts.

Have you tried that already ? https://www.audiomentor.com/audioproduction/daw-unable-detect-midi-controller-windows

Manaberry commented 4 years ago

No midi devices found so no way to uninstall what's not recognized. I've fixed the problem, I've reinstalled windows by using my USB emergency boot key (v1903).

My first midi port was not working anymore so I had to create a third midi port in rtpmidi and rename the target on my OSC template, but it does work now.

Thank you for your time! Maybe this thread will help someone else later :D
