UI controls not updated on first instance replace from submit -- FF and IE

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. load the attached app
2. select "Individual Profile" from the pulldown
3. select the search button
4. notice that the name fields remain blank.  you can verify that instance
data has been received from the xforms-test.org submission by using the
"show model" button
5. hit the search button again and notice that the fields do update

This behavior is seen on non-webkit browsers, e.g. FF and IE.  The original
instance replace does get reflected in controls on Chrome and Safari...

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
