We need to choose whether to use the Raspbian, or Ubuntu Server operating system.

IRC #raspberrypi (11/02/14 ~ 12:15am EST):

[Saint]: ALso - while it /is/ possible to run Ubuntu on a raspberrypi - don't. [Saint]: The last Ubuntu version that officially supported an architecture that will actually run on a pi is about 4 years old. [Saint]: Even if we assumed that a modern Ubuntu distribution could work on a raspiberrypi..you wouldn't /want/ it to. [Saint]: Its slow enough as it is. [Saint]: Let alone bogging it down with that hideous wench Unity.

abnormal: true...

RPG-Master: Hey, I like Unity, many others do too.

[Saint]: Not on a 900MHz ARMv6 w/ 512MB RAM you don't.

RPG-Master: [Saint] Oh yeah, wouldn't even think to try it.

IRC #raspberrypi (11/02/14 ~ 1:00pm EST):

jeffreylevesque: [Saint]: according to ubuntu server (CLI) requirements, all that's needed is 300 MHz processor, 192 MB of ram - https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements

[Saint]: jeffreylevesque: Ok - I'll give you that, it is non-obvious, but the raspberrypi uses an unsupported architecture. [Saint]: If you continue reading the link you supplied, you'll note that the minimum requirements FAR exceed the raspberrypi. [Saint]: Even if the architecture was supported. abnormal: jeffreylevesque, the pi's processor is totally different than the laptops and desktops processors. no two are compatible... period... abnormal: as the distros made for laptops and desktops are made for them, the pi's distros are made for the pi...

abnormal: two whole different worlds there...

jeffreylevesque: the previous link i sent was premised on ubuntu 12.04 - https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/serverguide/preparing-to-install.html jeffreylevesque and, I said that I wanted Ubuntu 14.04 - https://help.ubuntu.com/14.04/serverguide/preparing-to-install.html jeffreylevesque: which demands even more

[Saint]: It really doesn't matter, honestly, its not going to happen. [Saint]: If you want to run Ubuntu, either go back in time 4~5 years, or buy an actual computer.

This issue has been resolved, and documented in #9.

How does this stand five years later, with also Ubuntu Core on the field? Just passing by to hear an opinion =)
