I found the idea that code can be compared to great paintings and literary works and deemed similarly fruitful in supplying us with western cultural tradition of the past, to be interesting and an idea I have never thought about. However, the idea makes great sense as code is written and modified constantly, as the world continues to change, the code needs to catch up. It is written text, that is specific and influenced by cultural tradition, therefore concrete evidence of the past.
The length of this text is impressive in itself, the fact that an entire book is dedicated to one line of code is funny to me because there is a line within that states/warns the reader not to fetishize code.
