That's awesome! I think the text is OK (legible enough). Reminds me of when I used to program BASIC on Apple IIe's back in 7th grade, ha.
I'm going to add the whole @jekyll/help team to this repo so as you come up with these sorts of docs, you can add them to the repo. :)
Doing screencasts like this will be very helpful, thanks! @ndarville, also I didn't knew GFY existed, looks pretty cool, but a bit old fashioned. I do not know if you've seen https://asciinema.org/? I don't know if it provides pause and rewind but it's much better looking IMHO.
@albertogg That looks great, but, from how I read their docs, it looks like we would be stuck leaving our videos on their server in some proprietary format. They do look much better, though. :/
Here is the same video on asciinema, by the way.
The video looks better, thanks for posting! I don't mind leaving the videos on their server but if you do, we can do the screencast with GFY. Btw let me know where I can help!
I think I’ll be trying my hand at some screencasts later today or tomorrow.
If I have to do a GIF with both the terminal and the browser, what is the desired or maximum image width?
Thoughts on the width of animation/video, before I try my hand at recording something? I think I might have some spare time this week for once.
I’d go with something like 800x600 or 1024x768.
I did a basic example of what a GIF/GFY screencast would look like:
(GFY version).
I’m probably gonna do some screencasts like that for a general installation guide, since it doesn’t take a long time, but I’d be interested to know what feedback you have. Using the GFY version is ideal to me, because (1) performance, and (2) gfycat provides pause and rewind buttons, which makes it easier to follow them.
One thing that sticks out is OS X’s antialiasing, which makes the text slightly illegible. There should also be longer between the ending and the video restarting.
