I'm still looking at why this is, but am preemptively opening the issue so it's visible for those who search in this repo.

I can't seem to replicate this locally, but then again maybe it's my setup.

compiled ex_doc (mix escript.build) with OTP-27.0-rc1 and Elixir 1.16.1
renamed the output (binary ex_doc) to ex_doc_otp_24 and put in inside priv (for rebar3_ex_doc)
created an example repo/project (as per the linked PR) and ran rebar3 ex_doc ✅

Stuff's fine, so I'm 😕

⚠️ It seems we haven't released a new rebar3_ex_doc version in a while. I'll adapt CI to use the newest version, in any case, since I'm not sure the issue is not originated in that (not releasing and having ex_doc adapt to OTP 27, for example). @starbelly, should we release soon? (and maybe think about a more regular release schedule, at least closer to ex_doc's)
