Came here to see if there was an issue opened for this or not, and this is the top listed issue.
A workaround is to disconnect the app from the Chromecast, then start casting again to get the controls back. Playback doesn't stop during the reconnection process (which is fine).
Can't wait for a fix on this 😊
@dkanada what do you think, is it a web issue or an android-specific one?
Just to add to this, the app isn't battery optimized in android.

Can you explain this sentence? A photo of the issue would also be helpful.
App is not optimised in Android Settings
Notification still appears in notification tray, video is still playing on the TV from the server, but controls are absent and it appears in the app as not casting anymore. you have to cast again on the TV for the controls to come back.
I hope I'm describing the same issue as OP.
Thanks!
I've been having a similar problem. After a few seconds casting, the Jellyfin Android app exits... I have to open it again and choose to cast to the same device one more time. Usually it t keeps happening again and again. Some times the app doesn't exit, but my connection to the chromecast does, so I have to close the app and cast again, otherwise it won't cast.
This should be solved with the CAF (when Android gets bumped to web 10.6 and the user selects the 'nightly' client in Playback settings)
In the dashboard it says the app version of client connecting is 909. It's on a Samsung S7 edge.
If I start casting, and then put the phone down for a while, now and then when I open up the phone again to pause or whatever, the media controls do not show on screen at all while it still shows as connected. The progression bar is the only thing there and it's completely at the bottom of the screen.
I can try to get a photo of it if someone want to.
