Some DTS streams not working #339

I'm using androidtv 0.11.1 on Fire TV 3 with Jellyfin 10.4.3. I set it up to direct stream audio including DTS. Unfortunately for some of my files with DTS I don't hear any sound - whereas for some it is working (all files are working with direct streaming of the DTS in Plex!). For me it seems that as soon as the film hast two DTS streams, the default stream - in my case the german one - is not working whereas switching to the english one I can here the sound - switching back to german again mutes the sound (downmixing to stereo is always working).

Update: Obviously the problem does not only occur with two streams. File 3 has only one DTS stream and it is also not working

Thanks for reporting. I am struggling to reproduce this behaviour as I can play back a file with a DTS track info similar to your non-working ones on a Nexus Player. Could you please re-run mediainfo with --Full so that we have more info to work with?

I am sorry to inform you that I am failing to reproduce this issue. It's either specific to the device or media files played back :/

What i found is that the failings could be isolated to specific bitrate and -depth combinations as it seems like the broken ones are

and one of your working streams seems to be

but without more data or access to the files there's not much I can do.

Okay, so current state of debugging this is that this seems to be either specific to the Fire TV 3, maybe more Fire TV devices. We'll attemt to gather further device logs tomorrow and see whether this will provide more insight into what is going wrong.

For completeness here as well: Judging from the logs provided by @adb76, it seems like the ExoPlayer on FireTV 3 for some unknown reason doesn't even attempt to play the DTS track. Once the inherited mess of playback code has been properly rewritten, we will revisit this issue.

Current recommended workaround is to use stereo downmix when watching failing movies.

Same bug here on Xiaomi MiboxS. (androidTV 9.0) First DTS track not playing with Exoplayer, the second track is working. Looks like it's working fine when choosing Libvlc.

Can confirm on Fire TV Stick 4K, can't get DTS sound to play at all. With libVLC it works but as soon as you try to switch audio stream in the player UI, the whole app crashes.

On my Philips Android TV I don't get any sound from DTS streams. I have also had crashes with some media, which could also be related to DTS. Jellyfin doesn't seem to transcode anything.

The Emby app for Android TV transcodes the DTS stream to Dolby Digital AC3, which most, or probably every, Android device should support. From my experience a lot of Android devices are not able to handle DTS.

Currently this issue makes the app mostly unusable for me, as a lot of my media has DTS streams. An option to force transcoding of DTS to Dolby Digital would be very useful as it would entirely fix the issue in my case and probably also for many other users.
