Using "Auto" for maxium ammount of channels on IOS always defaults to stereo, despite airpods now supporting spatial audio #2787

Describe The Bug

First I want to appoligize if this is the wrong place to report this issue, but since the ios app repo is archived this was the only place I could think of.

The default "auto" setting for maximum amount of channels always transcodes to stereo, which is an issue since the native player supports 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound playback fine, and because airpods now support spatial audio as well. "Auto" should allow surround sound on IOS Steps To Reproduce

  1. Playback a surround sound video from the IOS jellyfin client.
  2. Notice that the audio transcodes to stereo and that there is no "spatial audio" indication in the control center when using airpods pro
  3. Change from "Auto" to 7.1 for maximum allowed channels, notice that spatial audio now works.

Expected Behavior

I would expect for 7.1 to automatically be used whenever possible, there is no reason to downmix serverside if the client can handle that on its own. Logs

I don't have any logs, let me know if you need them though. Screenshots

I'm happy to provide screenshots if needed as well. System (please complete the following information):
