Film date wrong if media file is suffixed

Description of the bug

If one add a movie and the media file is suffixed with a tag (like -1080p, or -2160p), then the film date is wrong. Probably jellyfin is trying to extract the date from the (< DATE >) pattern expected to be at the end of the file name. But the documentation says if different movies quality are present (or 2D/3D, or theatrical..Etc) we should use a suffix, so there is a problem.

Reproduction steps

Add one movie to your library. Name the directory properly "< Movie Title > (< Date >)" Add the media file to this directory: exemple: "< Movie Title > (< Date >) - 2160p.mkv" Update your library.

What is the current bug behavior?

check the movie date in any client, it will be wrong (except if the movie you add is from the current year...).

What is the expected correct behavior?

Movie date should be from the file, or maybe from the movie directory, but probably even better : from the nfo file !

Please provide screenshots of what Jellyfin shows in the interface and what your file structure looks like

I am very confused because after realizing removing the trailing "- 2160p" fixes the date, I applied that everywhere. ( I used to have both 1080p and 2160p version of a few movies) To answer your request I tried to add back the suffix on two movies and now the date stays ok. I then tried add two resolutions on the same folder, then remove and I cant make it fail again... Was having 100s failed ones a couple of hours ago... and updating library wasnt fixing it, I was about to recreate from scratch.

Will try some others..

Ah ! I got it if I erase the movie data !

Note: when at that unworking state, I tried modifying .nfo data and its not getting updated in the UI, even after refresh. So it seems like having the suffix prevent jellyfin from reading the nfo ?

Could you describe what you mean by this, in detail? Because I tried to replicate this with your NFO and naming convention and I can't.

I opened the movie and clicked on "refresh metadata", then in the pannel I selected "erase all metadata" ( my UI is in french so it might not be the exact same name)

I believe that is "replace all metadata" in the english UI. In which case I still cannot replicate your experience, when I do everything the same it shows 2009 as the release date as expected.

~~Humm... I got something very strange, now I cannot fix it back ! I renammed the movie, and it keep saying 2023. I added changes in the nfo and they are not updated into jellyin. I tried to force update at library and movie level and it doesnt change anything. I trashed my .nfo when modifying it, I fixed it and now I can go back to working state, and to non working one with the suffix. But it requires update metadata. I did it on both the library and the media, its a bit unclear to me when Jellyfin is reading the nfo again. Is there a way to add more logs ?

The NFO is read whenver you force an update (replace all metadata) or the file was modified and you run a normal update. Searching for new content does NOT re-read the NFO of existing movies.
