Jellyfin is always moving forward, and bugs are often fixed as side effects of other changes. Dear Stale Bot,
unless this has been fixed, it should not be closed, thanks for your patience.
Would be nice to have
Any updates?
In the mean time I think you can get around this by manually setting the media id from moviedb (anidb in my case, there is a plugin for it) and allowing jellyfin to identify again
Unfortunately, most of my videos are not movies or TV series so they would not exist on any moviedb. I just need an option like the OP mentioned that can remove these misidentified metadata or disable the functionality of metadata identification.
i think this issue may be related to the feature request i made some time ago, https://features.jellyfin.org/posts/1266/ability-to-disable-a-specific-metadata-provider-for-a-show-movie
I get it if you want to remove the match for a few videos, but it sounds like some of you should just disable the metadata providers for that specific library.
Closing in favour of the feature request above (issues are only for bugs atm). If it doesn't match your request I hope you will create a new FR on https://features.jellyfin.org
May I ask how to correctly disable those metadata providers for a library? I have unclicked all metadata providers and rescanned it in the library setting but the metadata such as modified title has still not been removed.
I am fine with the feature request which is 3 months old while my issue was opened oct 2020. but not being able to remove or replace auto-assigned Porn metadata from video files, with NSFW preview pictures, is a BUG in my definition not a feature.

The files in my case are not part of any metadata provider. They will never be correctly identified. i want to exclude them from automatic meta-data assignment without moving them to a different library,
Is there any update to this issue? I constantly have mis-identified media which is not in any metadata provider and cleaning this up is very tedious. Also sometimes the metadata found is inappropriate as the other user mentions.
I browse by folder , so I'd like
Yes please let us have this, so annoying.
Feature suggestion: In the WebUI, there is already a dropdown in the "..." menu for "Delete Data". We should allow for a "Delete Metadata" option in that same menu so we can remove items, and inherit.
Context - example bug in workflow in my case: I have a huge amount of unique content (filming a college graduation) that is incorrectly identified with bad metadata for some gundam anime, with preview images, trailer, description etc that make no sense given the content.
Why has this been closed? I'm going insane here with lots of media being wrongly identified and having to manually edit all the metadata because I left the default metadata downloaders.
Just add a way in the metadata editor to delete entries of a show or entire library, that's all that everyone asks for.
Can't believe this feature is not a thing yet...
Reopen please, unless it's really solved

It's a feature request. We don't use GitHub for feature requests :)
If Jellyfin automatically assigns wrong metadata and there is no way to remove it, i don't think this is a "feature request". "Automatically assigning wrong metadata" is a bug.

I won't agree because what we want is to give us a way to fix the current behavior, I think it's a request for bug fixing.
Yes, that would be nice to have for sure.
Also agreed, this is a bug not a feature request.
Wrongly assigned metadata can be a bug, but what is being requested here is a feature to remove the metadata.
I no longer use Jellyfin, I've been using the arrs + Plex instead. Sounds like you guys should actually push for this feature & meet the devs half way there putting {source-id} in the folder for easier matching https://features.jellyfin.org/posts/1671/parse-tvdb-ids-in-series-folder-name https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/
EDIT: Actually seems to have been implemented already? https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/server/media/shows/

Exactly this.
Wrongly assigned metadata can be a bug, but what is being requested here is a feature to remove the metadata.
At what point does a fix become a feature?
We already have the ability to edit metadata! We have the option to click through and delete individual fields on an item, we're able to remove assigned source-ids, delete images, etc. All of that functionality is there already. We're simply asking for a single click option to make fixing (automatically assigned) incorrect metadata a little less tedious...
Edit: this feature request seems to me to be much more in line with what (most) of us are asking for here than the earlier one linked above: https://features.jellyfin.org/posts/2235/an-option-to-reset-mis-populated-metadata and I would encourage everyone to vote for it and add to the discussion there since it seems this route is a (stubbornly) dead end.
This is mind boggling how this is brought up as an issue by many, Yet argued otherwise, I am still having this issue today.
I gotta say, if this is the way things are handled here, then I need to find some other program for my media library. Lots of things I love about Jellyfin, but this isn't one of them. In fact, this problem a deal breaker for me. If the OP wrote this post in 2020 and it's still being argued about? Then I consider anything else written here a waste of breath. This is a critical issue IMHO.
Farewell...
Jellyfin is so nice but removing a simple metadata updated by mistake is currently impossible for no reason
Describe the bug I have some Stock Footage Video Libraries in my Media Drive. These are usually a Folder that contains a lot of seperate Videos. In the specific case its stock footage of ink drops falling into water. This folder incorrectly gets recognized as a Series of Porn Movies, with the first in the series called "Swallow every Drop", and the others with imaginative titles such as "Face Paint", "Every Last Drop" etc.pp. While i appreciate the laugh i had about this, i would like to remove the very NSFW preview picture and, automatically added Episode Titles and other Metadata, let Jellyfin know its correct thinking that this is a series of Videos but it will not have any success autoscraping any Metdata for it and just leave it as it is, handling it as a series though. I dont see how that is possible right now, so maybe its a feature request rather than a bug report, but removing porn metadata from wrongly identified media should be possible somehow IMHO,
System (please complete the following information): Debian Docker
To Reproduce Add a folder with numbered Videos and a Parent folder name that gets mis-identified as a series of porn movies.
Expected behavior Add a Button that lets me remove the autodetected metadata without adding OTHER metadata.
