in order to support synctex in vscode (both ways), the LaTeX workshop extension can be used.

main.synctex.gz generation inside the container can be enabled via --latex-args="--shell-escape --synctex=1"
main.synctex.gz needs to be next to main.pdf (inside Latex/) -> copy similar to pdf
paths in synctex.gz need to be replaced from /latex/.build to actual host tasks -> un-gzip and re-gzip
use environment variable (replacement path) to toggle feature on and off

PoC seems to work, quick list of pending tests:

\\\" vs \" in tasks.json
paths containing spaces
tex -> pdf and pdf -> tex jumping
windows and linux support for all of the above

tex -> pdf synctex on windows not working might be related to https://github.com/James-Yu/LaTeX-Workshop/issues/2768 and fixed in https://github.com/James-Yu/LaTeX-Workshop/commit/09c044dfeca8ddd4c35c05ddd66e56ca26cc4c63 (hopefully)

for now, keep watching https://github.com/James-Yu/LaTeX-Workshop/releases and wait for the new changes to be released

forward synctex works on the latest master branch of latex workshop. yay

note: while one could argue that this justifies a new major release (docker command requires additional environment variables), it does in fact not break anything. sure, a useless synctex file will be generated, but that's not going to harm anyone or break existing functionality
