Home and Items pages inaccessible after upgrade to versiobn 1.08

I successfully installed sweetcron (version 1.02). After completing the
instructions for the upgrade to 1.08, the home page is now returning a
completely blank page. This is also the case in the admin area for the
items page. Additional pages which I've added/amended (about and contact),
continue to work correctly. 

I'm running this locally on Mac OSX Leopard.
