I'm not entirely sure what's the difference between these two in all the contexts. Morduhai-Boltovskoi in the comments to his translation of the Elements uses both, for example:

looks better, though, especially in Byrne's notation.
If there's no difference, then, probably, I'll make this change in both versions. I've already replaced minus
word with -
, because
word with \because
symbol (which Byrne mentions but never uses) etc.
I can see that you have replaced the occurrences of "minus" with $-$. Replacing \cdot would be nice, too.
