No problem! GeoEvent is definitely something we are considering. We are also considering writing a Python script that scrapes the API daily and automatically updates the layer. You will be the first person I notify when this becomes available 😊

Great thanks for the response Jennifer! It would be great if that layer was updated automatically. I don’t have experience with Google Sheet. Could something be done using GeoEvent to poll the DOE site every x amount of minutes through their API?
Anyways appreciate your work. George Porto

Hi George,

Thanks for reaching out. The data I published is from the DOE site. It is available in the Living Atlas as a map and a layer, and I manually update it whenever I get a request so you are correct that it is not the latest and greatest data. I would like to work with the DOE to get a feed of their data in the Living Atlas.

I started working on a layer that automatically updates based on changes to the data table in this Google sheet. For example, if the newest data from the DOE has any changes such as deleted rows, edited text, moved lat long, fuel type change, etc. it will automatically update in the map with a refresh rate of anything we want to set it to.

The part I’m still working on is getting the Google Sheet to automatically read the DOE API and update on its own whenever there’s a change. I’d love any feedback if you have experience with this. I’ll let you know if I accomplish it.

If I do, we’ll have a layer that is always the latest and greatest 😊

Best, Jennifer

P.S. here’s a youtube video I made sharing how to create a layer in ArcGIS Online from Google sheets.

Hello Jennifer, I work for a utility company in the North East US and we are looking to map our electric vehicle charging locations. I was sent an email from a colleague which included a link to the DOE site which has a map of these charging locations, link is below. I began to look to see if this was simply available in ArcGIS Online so we did not have to develop scripting/code to pull the data using their API. What I came across was your feature layer in AGO, also linked below. That was last updated in March 2018.
Couple questions:

  1. Is the data from this DOE site the same data you published?
  2. Searching for this data is somewhat difficult in AGO because I need to weed out all of the layers people have published of things that I am not looking for (like local cities and towns data). Does the DOE have this data available in the Living Atlas currently?
  3. I assume that this layer you published below is manually updated by you or someone at Esri and thus cannot necessarily be trusted to be the latest and greatest of DOE data, correct? Appreciate any feedback, George Porto
