New UI Feedback #397

I just had a look at the new UI of Ambie 4.0.12. For the most part it looks very good. The home page, however, could use some polishing in my opinion. I'll just write down a few suggestions:

  1. the dividers between the sidebar, top bar, and the rest of the page are more of a step back in design for me, making the areas relatively angular, which doesn't fit in well with the rest of the WinUI design (and looks more like Windows 10).
  2. Next, I find the top bar with the sound cards a bit cluttered/not well aligned. The volume slider looks good, but the sound cards seem a bit too small, especially the text seems quite small, compared to the individual volume sliders.

3) The Shuffle, Screen Saver, and Split buttons are a bit out of line due to their alignment under the standard action buttons of the window. I would center the buttons vertically, like the rest of the items in the top bar.

  1. the individual selectable tiles in the center of the page seem a bit crowded and, at least on my display, extend to the right edge of the screen. I would increase the right margin and the distance between the tiles a bit.

  2. in general, the buttons and sound cards in the top bar should be made a bit larger (perhaps to the size of the buttons in the sidebar) and all elements should be spread apart a bit to keep the design from looking too compressed.

  3. also the new icon looks in my opinion too homogeneous and compressed and the light glow from the right makes the icon look a bit too plastic, which does not harmonize well with the somewhat flatter style of the other windows icons (especially in dark mode and in the start menu).

This is just my personal opinion about the new design. But I think some design decisions could be re-evaluated.
