Majora's Mask: Bombers' Notebook Unimplemented write into Z buffer with Rice Video plugin. #411

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Describe your system:
 - Windows 7 (32 bit)
 - Mupen64Plus version: v1.99.4
 - Plugins used: Rice Video and standard input/audio plugins

For visual artifacts, give:
 - ZELDA MAJORA'S MASK (MD5: 2A0A8ACB61538235BC1094D297FB6556)
 - Missing screen, flashing sprites.

Describe the problem:

Viewing the Bombers' Notebook in Majora's Mask is broken with the Rice video
plugin. When you select it from the menu, the "spinning cursors" and the help
text at the bottem of the screen will flash, but nothing else will show up. The
flashing will continue untill you close the Bombers's Notebook with the B
button.

In the console, the following warning is printed:

Video Warning: Unimplemented: write into Z buffer. Was mostly commented out in
Rice Video 6.1.0

confirmed with Rice Video on 32 bit Ubuntu with 1.99.4 (ppa packages).

With Glide64, a different (incorrect) behavior is observed with the bomber's
notebook: the screen goes black.

Note: various other sprite bugs with this game and the Rice video plugin are
not present in Glide64 (eg, time of day indicator, maps, and hearts are
correctly displayed).

there is an uncorroborated report that the bomber's notebook screen used to
work in a very old version of glide64:

Works for me using Glide64 on Mupen64+ v1.5 with Gentoo. I'm not sure how to
get specific plugin versions though.

I'm having the same problem on my mac (10.6.8 with 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5, dual
core, with Intel HD Graphics 3000, and 32-bit color pixel depth). I'm working
with the wxmupen64plus 0.1 combo.pkg version. It would be really nice if I
could see the Bomber's Notebook (it either doesn't appear at all, or the screen
turns black), and if the screen didn't darken during some cutscenes. Help?

issue update: I used these plugins (mupen64plus-bundle-osx-1.99.4.zip), instead
of wxmupen64plus 0.1, and they did not help at all. The same issues with the
same plugins reoccurred. The Bomber's Notebook is still black in Glide; Rice
and Arachnoid are both completely unplayable. (By the way, I am using a macbook
pro). Is there any way to fix this? :/ Please help!!! I really want to play
Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time! (which has pause screen lag issues on
Glide64).

The Arachnoid video plugin does show the Bomber's Notebook screen (at least in
windowed mode and perhaps even often the second try!). I don't know what the
main differences are between the plugins, if anyone would care to link/detail
on that.

* Glide64 shows a black screen,
* Rice simply doesn't render anything (it's as if the entire notebook was
transparent, or perhaps behind the startmenu).

My hardware is an Intel Core2 Duo running 64bit and graphics accelerated by
(output from lspci):
Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400

You can fix this in Glide64 by enabling the "Smart Framebuffer" option. At the
moment there isn't an equivalent fixing option in Rice.

It also fixes the game being shown in the background while in the menu, for MM,
but not on OoT.

Even with Glide64 and Smart Framebuffer I can't see the notebook. There's just
a black screen.

I'm using a macbook pro and I tried using the "Smart Framebuffer" option with
Glide64 and it worked perfectly! The notebook shows up just fine

using the smart buffer option seems to fix this for glide64
