It seems to depend on the actual glyph dimensions in the font. I haven't yet figured out how to influence this position.
Thanks for putting this together @jenskutilek. I really enjoy Fira.
It seems that the Mac menu bar does not properly read the ascender and descender info. I was able to fix the position in the menu bar by adjusting the ascender and descender of the font. I followed this tutorial.
Unfortunately, it caused the bold weight to sit too high in buttons and anywhere else it was used. I reverted back to the original font since the app name sitting too low was far better than breaking text everywhere else.

Thank you so much for this - even with the lowered Bold issue is SO much nicer than Helvetica!

Thanks, too, @jenskutilek! FWIW, I re-generated the bold font in TypeTool as .ttf without doing anything else. It's quick and dirty, but seems to have resolved the alignment issue, even while throwing some warnings.
@struppek any way you can share the fixed font, please?
I finally was able to fix the alignment issue, please check out the updated versions. The Light font weight (used in Spotlight) has also been added.
Hello! Thank you for the fix and the fonts. In my case I see Apple Mail like this (please note characters baseline is slightly misaligned).
Regards,
Carola
I downloaded the fonts again (from the link in the Readme) and I still have this issue EDIT: I had to remove the fonts, logout/in, then copy the fonts over again - now fixed!
I’ve adjusted the vertical metrics again, the badges in Apple Mail look much better now. Please redownload the fonts again ...
Looks perfect now, big thank you again.
The bold Chrome is lower than the right menu font.
