@karlnicholls, do you mind sharing the ad for the experiment here? Just want to have a look and be able to share it too.

Study Poster

@jensroes I went with a yellow and red theme as that's what Youtubers use to draw attention to their thumbnails (it's also why lifeguards have the yellow and red uniform, makes them easier to find). I'm not sure it works too well for this poster though, so if you agree, then I can change the colour scheme.

Also, is the information provided might be TOO basic.

I think it's good and although the colours are not aesthetically pleasing (first thing that I noticed), your argument for why you're using them is convincing :) Good job.

I'd remove the clip art on the top. The picture in the middle is better and enough for the space. I'd change second bullet point: "Duration: 30 mins" (it really shouldn't take longer and if it does we need to adjust credits and vouchers, at least in future.)

Third: "Reward: £5 Amazon vouchers or 3 SONA credits"

maybe add: "Location: Taylor Building, NTU City Campus"

I'd move your email on a new line and use bold font for it (or something to separate it from the text). Probably make the last text even shorter and just say: "To sign up, please email Karl at ..." People will know that they can also use your email to ask questions.

I think basic is good but an interesting title might be helpful, something that makes people interested in participating. Obviously we don't want to give any information away. Something like: "What your eye movements can tell us about your ability to learn?"

@jensroes Here it is with your suggested changes. I've also swapped the colours to see if it helps. I'm not sure it's much better tbh.

In regards to the SONA credits, I do think that 4 would have been more suitable. Obviously, when I set it up on SONA, I hadn't run a full experiment. With set up, the break in the middle and asking questions afterwards, it can take more than 30 minutes sometimes.

@jensroes In addition to the posters above, I think these ones would be good to be printed and put up around campus.

"how we learn" sounds like there is missing a "how we learn what". That' why "our ability to learn" maybe. I'd remove "available" from the second bullet point cause it's not needed (and to make it one line).

I think red background is slightly better.

Thanks, that's good to know about the duration.

That looks good. Have you got access to a colour printer in NTU buildings? I know there is one for staff in chaucer 4th floor but we might need to send them to the print shop instead.

@Mark-Torrance and @Lai-Sang, I think we can use the print shop for free if we indicate that it's for "teaching purposes". Is that still true? Have you use the print shop recently?

karlnicholls commented 2 years ago

I'm pretty certain the only printing I can do is via the print shop for a cost. I'm hoping someone will have free printing access.

I've updated them to your suggestions. I've done the same with the yellow ones, but I'll just share the red ones. Study poster v.2.2.pdf

Okay this looks great. Feel free to share this on social media. For the printed version, it might be a better idea to use keep it grey scale because making the entire background red is very ink demanding, especially if we need a lot of copies. Alternatively it might be better to use a white background (again, only if it needs printing).
