taxa table does not include all species codes in data #4

I'm working with a subset of this data (FLA Keys, 2018) and found 74 species codes that aren't in the taxa table. I'm not a fish biologist, so I'm hoping to hunt down a complete table, rather than make assumptions about scientific names. My preference would be to get an updated taxa table, since I might be working with more of this data in the future.

Of the 74 species codes, I'm able to match 54 to a single scientific name in fishbase or sealifebase by the first three letters of genus and species. The remaining 20 are either nonsense (e.g. "Other1", "NO FISH") or match more than one genus. Some, like "EMB Spe." are probably Chaenopsidae, given the other species in the taxa table, but also match other genera in other families.

Any chance you could help clear these up?

BOT SPE. CAN SPE. CHA OCLL EMB SPE. ENG SPE. ENN SPE. GER SPE. HIP SPE. HOA SPE. LAC SPE. MIC SPE. MYR SPE. POM SPE. STR SPE.

NCRMP_Fish_SppList_Dec2022.xlsx

Here is the updated Fish List. All the species your mention are present. There are some extra fields in there you may not need.

I need to formally update the Taxonomic list that the r-package uses, but in the meantime I hope this helps.

Let me know if you have any other questions about using this package or the data itself.

This does help! Thanks for taking the time to do this, it's very appreciated.
