Suggestion: new module for advanced trigger/gate-generation #69

Hello,

I'm a big fan of your modules, so thank you for this nice work.

When surfing around the other day I ended up on the website of Lucid Rhythms:

This artwork reminded me of some of your modules that have some things in common with the trigger/gate-idea(s) of Lucid Rhythms. As far as I understand his work he deals with slightly changing loop-times of trigger/gate-chains and delay-times between the steps. Maybe he sends the triggers/gates to VCAs that are driven by envelopes.

IMHO this meets some of your ideas. Maybe his work inspires you to think about a new kind of trigger/gate-generating module(s). If not, I hope you enjoy the work of Lucid Rhythms.

Thanks for message, I'm glad you enjoy my modules.

Did you have anything specific in mind from the Lucid Rhythms link? I already have Polyrhythm Clock (which allows for complex embedded rhythms) and the polyrhythm mode in Talea based on intervallic ratios. Are you thinking of something more visual?

What I found interesting in the Lucid Rhythms was how the intervals of the gates/triggers, that trigger the sounds, change smoothly (from shorter to longer and back again, like a slow sine-LFO). That behavior sets the 'speed' of a sequence.

I have no idea if or how this can be done with your models.

If you would ask me how I would design a module for smoothy changing independent sequences, if I would be able to (but I`m not):

I have no idea if this is possible or how complicate it is to design a module like this. It is just an idea, a suggestion.

Currently I have to use a lot of modules to patch sequences that run at different length, speed, direction and so on to get some 'Steve-Reich-effects'. Sooner or later the result always gets - beside the 'Reich-effect' - repetetive to the listener because the patches are driven by digital clocks/LFOs, that always lead to a kind of grid.

When playing analog music it is easy to insert smooth, subtile variations even in more or less static sequences. To be honest, this is what I'm often missing in electronic music, If you look at the patches with VCV Rack people populate, many of them sound the same, using all the way the same patching-ideas. IMHO there are only a few innovative people who try to break out of the gridded structured world.

And to be honest, most of the modules support this 'quantised' way of patching.

Thank you for your time and I hope you don't mind my thoughts about the general approach of patching VCV Rack.
