it opens and closes but doesn't let you type or go to a home folder or anything

Same for me. Atom 1.37.0 macOS 10.14.5

I've to report the same issue. No terminal on Atom 1.37.0 and MacOS 10.14.4. atom-ide-terminal works.

Last commit was 3 years ago ^^ Apparently we have to use this fork instead : https://github.com/platformio/platformio-atom-ide-terminal
