Attempt 9: cast-in-place aluminium #13

Open jes opened 4 years ago

jes commented 4 years ago

This is 3 spherical sections nested together. Hopefully we'll get 3 inseparable aluminium parts.

Will make the plaster mix quite wet to try to eliminate trapped air in between the spheres. Also will only hold it at 700 degrees for about 5 minutes, instead of an hour.

I may have been a bit over-enthusiastic with getting the plaster nice and wet, I am suspicious that the plaster and the charcoal have separated, so this might be another failure.

I did mess up the plaster, but I've chucked it in the furnace anyway. Most likely all the aluminium will leak out.

Failed, although the plaster held up OK.

The thin walled sections have been sucked away as the aluminium cooled, and it looks like the plaster hadn't filled in the small gaps, so the 3 parts are fused together as one.
