Work around the PPCompiler lack of support for properties

We use properties to store parse failure, but the compiler does not support this

• [x] Disable use of the compiler
• [x] Implement workaround and enable use again
• [x] Wait for fix
• [ ] Remove workaround

First bullet is implemented by the fix for issue #97
