Market Enabler deletes and creates new APN settings on CyanogenMod 7 nightlies #116

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. CyanogenMod 7 Nightly + Market Enabler
2. Setting Tmobile or any other fake provider will change the existing APN
accounts on my mobile network

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I think that market enabler didn't change any APN settings before on
CyanogenMod 6, so maybe CM7 is to blame or both.

What version of the product are you using? On what ROM?
3.1.1.2 with CyanogenMod 7 Nightlies

MarketEnabler doesn't do anything with APN's, but I will check on my nexus.

yes it was a mini shock to me too.. but everytime I changed the Market enabler
"provider" the APNs changed with it to the co-responding provider.

I tested it and yes, you are right.
There must have been a change in either AOSP gingerbread or cyan.

Before it wasn't like this but now there is a problem if you use autofake
functionality.

The 2G/3G connection doesn't get dropped if you use MarketEnabler but as soon
as it needs to establish a new connection it doesnt get the right APN's anymore.

Unfortenatly I can't fix this... and it depends on your rom.
If you clear the predefined APN's and just enter your own APN's that you need
for your network and don't set the mnc/mcc values it should work like before.

OK stupid question, but how do I change or enter my own APN's? Also if I run
this and it messes them up, will it revert back once I reboot, or will they be
messed up until I fix them manually?

It won't change anything but your APNs are stored with MCC and MNC values.
The Android system sees the change of this runtime settings (thats what
MarketEnabler does) and only displays you the one that fits the MCC and MNC
values.

You could manually go into the APN settings and just delete the values for MCC
and MNC and then they should be displayed on all configurations (haven't tried
this but thats the theory).

[Solved] Your need configure your APNs ***FOR EACH*** operator you set on
Market Enabler.
IMPORTANT: Do not change default values of MMC and MNC. These values depend of
gsm.sim.operator.numeric (In fact gsm.sim.operator.numeric=MMC+MNC)

I'm in Australia and every time I try and change the US provider on both
options I get 'Houston we have a problem :(' I'm on an optus 3G network.

@jodi I think that this is not related to the APN issue.
Do you meet the preconditions like having your phone rooted?
If so, please open a new ticket and describe your behaviour and attach a logcat
of the process as I need it to identify the problem you have.

Otherwise you can open a thread in the support forum at
http://s.2030.tk/mesupport and I will look at your issue.

It would be nice if someone answered both questions in comment 5.

Another problem is that several comments give advice on what to do, but they
fail to mention what this should achieve, enable the Market or repair any
damage done by Market Enabler.

For me Market Enabler does not work. Could that be because of the problem
described here? I'm in Germany, running CyanogenMod 7.0.2.1, and cannot see,
for example, Google Mail in the Market.

The APNs revert back to default after a reboot in CyanogenMod I don't know for
stock.

Backup your default APNs with the backup option and then change the APN,
download apps etc, then restore the backup I guess.

To make it clear, MarketEnabler doesn't modify / delete any APNs.
If the APN list of the system has MCC and MNC values in it, the system will
only show the APNs for the SIM card that is inside.
A sideeffect of changing that value (what ME does) is that the System now
thinks you have a different SIM inside but exactly this is what ME should do.

If you fake back to your provider settings (you can do that with the backup /
restore option in ME) it will show your APNs again.

This doesn't seem to be an issue any longer (at least not for me on CM7 Nightly
#53 for LG O2X). I was worried beforehand but APN works perfectly fine even
after using MarketEnabler to fake T-Mobile.

Such behavior is expected, closing the issue for now.
