That's annoying, you used to be able to skip the payment. I'm using 0.9.10. It also used to be that every Sparkfun part would have a downloadable Fritzing file on its product page which made adding their connections to the PCB really easy. There was also a library for Adafruit parts. I think Sparkfun has now committed to Eagle so they stopped supporting Fritzing parts (maybe because it's not free). I originally started using it to make figures as every part had a nice breadboard view where you can make the circuit virtually. For PCBs, it's only good for relatively simple designs, but for that it's great!

I was looking into fritzing and seems their newer versions are now paid? The last non-paid version I could find was 0.9.6 from 2021, so I was wondering which version you used and if there was any specific reason to use fritzing? (genuinely curious, as there are so many different software for PCB development out there, I always like to hear what people think about each, and why they select one over the other)
