The north elevator has been repaired.
Steve Park from Amtech reports:
It appears we have big problem at the 500 Oak Knoll building with the #1, North elevator. One of our techs responded to a call about a burning smell yesterday.
Upon arrival he found the oil in the tank is missing. He checked the elevator pit by looking through the gap between the car and hall sills and did not see any oil in the pit. Our suspicion is that the in-ground cylinder has failed. These elevators both still have the original cylinders we (under the Oliver & Williams name) installed in about 1975. You may have heard the term single bottom cylinder and these are that type.
Usually we perform a test to verify the leak but this situation seems quite clear what is the problem. The tech also recommends the pump unit be replaced. It might have suffered some damage but will at minimum need significant cleaning from the accumulated mud like debris in the bottom.
The elevator is currently out of service and will be for an extended time period, maybe a few months until repairs can be completed. I will start working on the proposals detailing our recommendations.
