I would like to separate phrases with a character rather than a newline. I propose the vertical pipe: |

The vertical pipes would not be displayed to the user or required for typing; they are simply to break up phrases that the voice says at once. The user is required to type a newline (enter or return) when there is one in the lesson text, but at the phrase breaks they just keep typing the sentence and the voice says the next phrase.
