My device only shows 10% increments, but some apps show 1% increments, can you add a workaround for my device? #54

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
Is there any way to get the notification bar to show the power remaining to the
nearest percentage, rather than to the nearest 10%? Other programs do this and
it would be great if this one did, too.

Some devices, mostly Motorola ones, only show 10% increments via Android's
standard BatteryManager interface. Some other apps seem to have found some
low-level way to guess at the battery level; my app sticks to the standard
interface. This is a legitimate concern, and I hope to some day have a
workaround, but I'd really rather not. I'm shocked and appalled that
manufacturers are still releasing new devices with this serious limitation, but
that's the reality, so hopefully some day I can find the time to work around
it. I don't expect to get there in the near future.

Actually, I finally got my hands on a device with this issue and expect to have
a workaround soon. The original Droid is known to NOT work, but most other
devices with this problem should work (once I get this done). If you've found
any apps that work on your particular device, then mine should to (when done).

working on the Droid Razr. :)

Droid X2 - Doesn't seem to work. Phone showed 60%, then enabled 1% option. No
change. Rebooted device. It then showed 80%.

Thanks everyone for your results so far. Glad it seems to be working for most
people!

Marvin: Huh, I figured it would work on the Droid X2 since I worked this all
out on the Droid X. Not changing when you turn the option on isn't necessarily
a bad thing (there's a 10% chance it actually was at 60%). Jumping by a bit
after a reboot isn't too surprising on its own, either, since on many devices
that makes the battery come up with a new estimate from scratch. 20 points is a
bit much, but not shocking. Please make sure the option is still enabled,
since the app will turn it off if it encounters a problem. If it's still
turned on, then just keep an eye on it and report back here when you have a
better sense of what it's doing. Thanks!

Works for me on Droid 2, immediately after checking the option. It's counted
down from 100% to 91% in 1% increments so far with no troubles. Reading remains
consistent after a reboot.

Suggestion: remind people to disable "10% Mode" in colors/themes after turning
on the 1% hack (and seeing that it works).

Good point, I should have mentioned that. I'm planning to remove the 10% Mode
as long as all works out with this new option.

Nice addition. It works fine on my Droid RAZR (6.11.748.XT912.Verizon.en.US).
The only oddity is: after overnight charge, it only displays 99% rather than
100%.

Hi, Dan here to report test results on Droid RAZR system version 748 unrooted.

Everything works perfectly except when at the 10% battery on discharge it did
not do 1% increments and dropped by the normal 5% increment. While at 5% it
showed 1% discharge levels however. Also when charging at 4% it displayed 1%
increments normally.

Droid X2 hack works great. I did things that use a lot of battery and it's been
going down by 1% and no issues that I'm aware of.

I had to disable the hack, my phone has been having a lot of issues and until I
can get them fixed I'm trying not to do anything too strainious on the OS. (I'm
not very technologically inclined, but since I disabled the hack and started
using the built in task killer to kill certain tasks my phone isn't so screwy)

I have Droid Razr Maxx. Battery Indicator Pro, upon enabling 1% hack, appears
to report at 1% increment. However, as soon as the 1% hack is activated, the
original battery icon (on top right) has stopped showing correct discharge
level graphically. Uninstalling BIP does not restore the icon's graphic
accuracy. The icon now shows barely no discharge even after 20% of actual
battery discharge. At around 40% actual discharge, the icon graphically shows
only around 10% discharge. Is this a known issue? Is there a way to restore
original battery status icon so that it reports correctly?

Hi, blueglacia.

There's no conceivable way the app could have modified the behavior of the
built-in battery icon -- it doesn't have permission to modify system files,
among other reasons.

What you describe sounds like roughly what the built-in icon has always done
(which is why I built this app in the first place).

1% option grayed out
Device: Motorola i867

After 5 to 7 hours on discharge the system icon still shows 100% (graphically).
That's just not possible with wifi. Battery indicator does the same thing :(
After making or receiving a call the system icon seems to get updated but in
strange increments... I've only seen 100% 65% and 35% (both in indicator text
as well as the system icon).

Seen anything like this before? (33% or 35% increments instead of 10%
increments on motorola)

Even getting the 10% increments would be an improvement for this device.

Yeah, a ways back I heard that the Motorola i1 only reports at 100%, 65%, and
35%. It sounds like Motorola has done it again with the i867. I really can't
begin to explain why they think that's a reasonable decision. Unfortunately,
since the 1% option is greyed out for you, that means there's nothing I can do
to help.

I have a problem that my
device doesn't show 1%-
increments (not 10%
increments as well) but
jumps rather quickly.
For example, it stays at 29
percent for 5 minutes, then
jumps to 27, then, after 10
minutes to 23, and so on...
Same thing while charging
(only, the increments rise,
eh).
Only when battery percentage
gets under 10, it does
actually show 1% increments
(9, 8, 7, 6, etc...).
The one-percent hack is grayed out on my device and obviously doesn't work.
I have an Alcatel One Touch OT-990 running on Android 2.3.4

Hi, Dafeed.

If you live in Portland, Oregon and let me debug your device, it's possible I
can work something out. I wouldn't have high hopes even with a device in hand,
however, since the current method works on the vast majority of 10%-increment
devices. My guess is that the Defy XT simple can't do it.

If you find another app that does it (without requiring root), then please let
me know, and I can try contacting the developer. But again, I'm skeptical that
it's possible.
